As seen on Odyssey

Jeffrey Donovan is back in action, this time he is not a spy but a fortune-telling scam artist. Until a client’s boyfriend finds him and beats him up causing Jeffrey’s character to get a head injury. Now he is seeing visions and hear voices.

In Hulu’s new original series Shut Eye, Jeffrey’s character is named Charlie Haverford, a failed magician from Las Vegas, Nevada. He is on his second marriage and has two kids. They look like your average American family. He has a nice family home in the suburbs of Los Angeles that he works out of. He also manages some fortune-telling parlors in the area. The thing is, these fortune-telling parlors are part of an organized crime syndicate that is being run by the Romani Marks clan.

Charlie wants to move up the chain and wants to break away from being the underdog and taking orders from the Marks clan. To do that, he hooks up with Eduardo Bernal, who is part of a different crime syndicate.

The show is created by Les Bohem with executive producers Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein and was filmed in Canada. The series is being shown on Hulu and is available for binge watching, but be careful, there are only ten episodes.

In a nutshell, you have a con-artist working for one crime syndicate who hooks up with a boss of another crime syndicate, and the con-artist is lying to his boss on what is going on. This show is lies wrapped up in more lies with a dash of confusion. If you like dark comedy, you may want to give this show a try.

Have you watched the show? What are your thoughts about the show and its characters? What would you have done differently and what do you look for in season two, if there is a season 2?
